HOW LICENSING WORKS AT ANALOG FILM STOCK
Analog Film Stock licenses authentic 8mm and 16mm archival footage for use in film, television, digital media, and commercial projects.
When you license footage from Analog Film Stock, you are purchasing a license to use the footage, not ownership of the physical film or copyright. Licensing allows us to preserve the archive while making it accessible to filmmakers.
Analog Film Stock operates as a DBA of Slate & Glass, and all licensing is handled through Slate & Glass.
RIGHTS, CLEARANCES & RESPONSIBILITY
Analog Film Stock licenses digitized scans of analog film.
Licensing a scan does not grant ownership of the original film, nor does it transfer any underlying intellectual property, personality, or publicity rights that may exist in the footage.
Many reels in the archive originate from:
-
Home movies
-
Personal collections
-
Historical or documentary sources
In some cases, original creators, subjects, estates, or rights holders may still retain rights related to the footage.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A LICENSEE
By licensing footage from Analog Film Stock, you acknowledge that:
-
You are responsible for securing any additional permissions, clearances, or releases required for your intended use
-
Model releases and appearance releases are generally not available
-
The license provided covers only the use of the digitized scan, not the underlying content or individuals depicted
This is standard practice when licensing archival and historical material.
GOOD-FAITH LICENSING
We license footage in good faith, believing it to be suitable for editorial use based on the information available to us.
However, Analog Film Stock and Slate & Glass do not warrant or guarantee that all rights have been cleared for every possible use.
WHAT YOU ARE LICENSING
Each license grants the right to use the selected footage under the terms of the license tier you choose.
Licenses generally include:
-
Use of the digitized footage files

Non-exclusive rights
-
Use within a single project (unless otherwise stated)
Licenses do not transfer copyright ownership or exclusive rights.

QUESTIONS?
We believe licensing should be clear, fair, and filmmaker-friendly.
If you’re unsure which license applies to your project — or if you want to confirm usage before purchasing — reach out. We’d rather answer questions early than fix problems later.
