FAQ

WHAT IS STANDARD SCAN DELIVERY?

All footage currently available through Analog Film Stock is scanned and delivered using a consistent, filmmaker-friendly standard.

Current standard delivery specifications:

  • Resolution: 16mm 4K (4000 × 3000) 8mm (3000 x 2250)

  • Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (native to the original film frame)

  • Codec: H.265 (HEVC)

This format preserves the full image area of the original film while providing efficient file sizes suitable for modern editing and delivery workflows.

Analog Film Stock operates as a DBA of Slate & Glass, and this standard reflects the same workflow we use on our own documentary projects.

WHY 4K 4:3?

We scan film at its native aspect ratio to preserve the full frame — including headroom and edge detail that is often lost in widescreen conversions.

This gives filmmakers flexibility to:

  • Crop for 16:9, 1.85:1, or other delivery formats

  • Reframe shots in post

  • Preserve the authentic character of the original footage

Nothing is cropped or resized unless requested.

CAN I GET RAW OR PRORES 444 SCANS?

Yes, for projects that require higher bit depth, expanded color information, or maximum flexibility in post-production, ProRes 4444 delivery is available at an additional fee of $500 per reel. However, most underexposed or overexposed film is difficult to restore even with RAW scans.
